Increasingly I'm seeing interactive, and/or web-based films and documentaries. Not so much the never-took-off-laserdisc-style interactive ones (collection plug). Stuff like A Short History of the Highrise listed on IMDB simply as a Documentary. I'd like a new genre for these.
It's an issue IMDB haven't got a grip on yet; The one above and 13 hour long, web only documentary TROM are listed there but many are not - Lech kowalski's web stuff and David Lynch's (cool) Interview Project maybe wouldn't even be permitted.
Sometimes movies are accompanied by lush web tie-ins; Killing Kennedy has a fancy one a web-based or cross platform tag could help draw attention to it.
I realise some may not want interactive works added. There are some -and many web-only films- already in the database though. Personally I don't think it's any worse than receiving a recommendation for a short, miniseries or standup.
These things seem to be becoming more popular (the McNuggetization of documentary film? ), take a look at the Cross-Platform section of Sheffield Doc Fest -a couple of computer games aside.
By adding a genre for this I think Criticker would be ahead of imdb, better organised for the many more that will surely be made.

Re: Genre: Web Based / Cross Platform
This doesn't actually make any sense.
"Web-based" refers to the film's distribution, not the genre. Now, it would be ridiculous to have a genre for "super-saturated films" (those that play in 3,000+ theaters) or "limited release films", right? Because it doesn't say anything about the picture itself, just how it was distributed.
Same situation here.

Re: Genre: Web Based / Cross Platform
I hear you and agree that in things like Interview project and the Kowalski stuff the distribution barely affects the work. I'd still like to be able to rate these things though and, if recommended, to know they are web only.
'Choose your own adventure' isn't a genre, they're distributed as books -typed as gamebooks. Often they're found in a section together and almost certainly clearly labelled as such. Similarly I believe that interactive is a type of film, not a distribution choice -becoming more popular thanks to the internets- and worth a genre tag, seems the easiest way to do it.
