Mini reviews with spoilers

Post by igormachete »

I think it would be nice to be able to mark your mini reviews with spoiler tag. This feature was mentioned here years ago, yet it is still not present. Is there any reason why it wasn't implemented?

It's still in our list of enhancements... I think it's probably just taken a backseat to others we've deemed more important. But it is something that we'd like to implement at some point.

Yes. Please

Wrote a long post in support of this feature
but it, + another hour's worth of posts, all dissappeared down an electronic hole :!:

A concealed spoiler tab in mini-reviews would be SO welcome.
After all, it already functions here
Can this feature not be relatively simply
implemented in the mini-reviews post box
[with a pretty HEFTY HINT to use the feature as a courtesy to other users] :?:

Also, would be great (2 deal with existing spoiler reviews & any users who mistakenly leave new spoilers in their future comments) if ANY subsequent reader of any mini-review could add a spoiler tag/line concealer.

good idea

I think it the entire mini-review should NOT be hidden, ONLY the spoiler itself. This can be handled by spoiler tags, like it is handled on IMDb. The words inside spoiler tags are obfuscated, but when you hover the mouse over them, the spoiler text is revealed.

Yes, livelove. But just use Spoiler system already existing here

Post by Mist600 »

The spoiler system at use here in forums would work just fine, no?

It would allow the mini-review to be shown whilst putting the 1 or 2 spoiler filled lines behind a hypertext link
JUST LIKE THIS
Solution is at hand & just needs to be 'ported' across to mini-reviews, surely.

Ability for 3rd party to apply spoiler would be very useful but could be abused

Ability for 3rd party to apply spoiler would be very useful but could be abused:

IE.
User A posts a review without blocking off their spoiler filled final lines.
User B reads User A's review & it spoils the big twist for them. User B can then put the spoiler warning/hide tag onto those lines of User A's review. That way any future readers are protected from the spoiler :!:

Problem is I can see SOME people starting to play silly sods: Spoiler tagging political views etc they just disagree with but are not in any way spoilers.

There would need to be a system to handle that kind of abuse.

Though I hope 95%+ of us are mature enough to not screw with a good thing here. We should all be helping each find more great movies not bringing our political bickers & twitter spats etc on here

The forum is handled by third-party software.
BTW, I think the requested spoiler tags should work as inline tags in mini-reviews.

Well, anything can be abused on the site: The forum, the mini-reviews, voting, etc.
That's why you have to register. Abusive users can be banned.

Abusive can be blocked - good point, livelove

"Abusive users can be banned" - good point, livelove

Are you saying the spoiler system that works here ALREADY would work in the mini-review section?

If so, then all is needed is a STRONG notice (appearing on the mini-review posting page) advising users to deploy it or avoid spoilers all together.

The forum is handled by third-party code. The rest of the site is coded by the site owners themselves. So no, you cannot just copy/past the code without adaptions, if that's what you are asking.

To me the point is moot, because the forum spoiler tag is a block element, whereas the mini-reviews require an inline element.

Plus, you seem to want additional features. For example, you say users should be able to put spoiler tags in other users' mini-reviews, so essentially be able to edit their mini-reviews without being allowed to change their text. That's less trivial than it sounds.

3rd party spoiler blocking would be ideal but....

3rd party spoiler blocking would be ideal but....
Lets not let the ideal but the enemy of the good.

If it is far simpler just to allow mini-reviewer posters to spoiler tag their own stuff only then lets do that first & urge them vigorously to make use of it.

:?: Are U one of the site runners yourself, livelove?
