Games: Early-Access Titles

An increasingly common trend in games is for titles to have an Early Access run - effectively releasing the game to the public for purchase before it is deemed completed.

From what I've observed so far on Criticker, Early Access games aren't really being entered into the database, and the release date for titles that have had Early Access runs is stated as that of the full release, after Early Access has finished (which makes sense in my eyes).

However, as many games can be worthwhile purchases during their Early Access runs, I at least would be interested in having Early Access titles recommended to me (though I know this isn't an all-encompassing opinion).

I think it would be a good addition to the site to allow, say, a box to tick when submitting a title to indicate it is in Early Access (and thus, obviously, having Early Access titles present in the database). If this were also added as a filter option, those interested in being recommended Early Access games could be so, and those not interested could deselect them in the filter.

As titles will obviously (mostly) leave Early Access at some point, an option to edit the Early Access status of a game would also be an additional suggestion. Perhaps an additional date field could be present to show when the Early Access release and the full release of a title were.

Thanks for that idea! We've added it to our list of future possible enhancements for the Games version of our site.
