Multi-word searches not working as they used to

Post by trippingly »

I've noticed that if I use the search bar to search for, say, "seven samurai", the Kurosawa film will come up as the first autocomplete suggestion, but if instead I hit "Go", I get "103 films match seven+samurai", and the Kurosawa film isn't one of the first twenty results. Then if I hit "Next" to see more results, I get "0 films match seven%2Bsamurai".

Also, I often search Criticker by doing a keyword search in Firefox. (I can either type "cr seven samurai" in the address bar or use an add-on that allows me to highlight something on another site and right-click to search from the context menu, which is very handy.) When I search in either of those ways, I'm taken to the URL "https://www.criticker.com/?search=%s&type=films", with the "%s" replaced by whatever search string. Same as using the search bar here on the site. It works for search strings of one word, but if I search for "seven samurai," the address bar briefly shows "https://www.criticker.com/?search=seven%20samurai&type=films" and then "https://www.criticker.com/?search=seven samurai&type=films", and I get no results at all. The message is "0 films match seven%20samurai".

Seems like something's going on with the encoding of the space bar character?

Thanks!
