Search is broken for films with ' in title

Post by andr »

For example I tried to search for this title:

What's Your Number? (2011)

but there were too many results.

I tried the following search terms but they returned too many results:
    What's Your Number?
    What Your Number 2011
    What Your Number

Finally it was easier for me to search by google than using built-in search:
The following google query returned the needed page as the first result:
    What's Your Number? 2011 site:criticker.com

An unrelated search issue is that when typing a movie name in the search box, it used to show results in a drop down menu while you were typing. It no longer does this for me.

Thanks for reporting these, guys... I think we've gotten them all taken care of.

For example I tried to search for this title:

What's Your Number? (2011)

This one is actually not a problem with the apostrophe, but with the year in parenthesis. If you search just on the film name, it comes up with no problem. I'm not saying there's not room for improvement, because we should probably recognize "(2011)" as an attempt to search on the year, not on the title, but it's more of an enhancement request than a bug.

An unrelated search issue is that when typing a movie name in the search box, it used to show results in a drop down menu while you were typing. It no longer does this for me.

This one should be fixed now!

Another example of a problematic search query: L'Âge d'or .

This one should also be fixed.

Thanks again!

The "He-Man and the Masters of the Universe" entries should be displayed.

This should now be fixed! Thanks again for reporting it!

having issues with search again. i search for 'the naked gun' and none of those movies are on the first page of results. i assumed at first it was caused by the colon after 'gun', but i just searched for 'die hard' and that isn't on the first page of results either, whereas die hard: with a vengeance is there (albeit halfway down the page).

Very sorry about these continuing search issues, guys! It seems like every time we address one problem, we introduce another. We'll take a look at these latest reports soon, and update here when solved.

the only result for "die hard" right now is a '97 film (which, to be fair, is also called "die hard") with the premise: A short film that makes fun with the usual bomb-car exploding hollywood films like Die Hard.

That's kind of amusing, but clearly not right. We've opened up a new bug, and will update here when it's fixed.
