What happened to these two movies?

Post by BadCosmonaut »

Two movies used to be on this site but are now missing. They were working as of a couple weeks ago. See this image. The two movies I'm talking about are the two I have rated 2:

Tokugawa onna keibatsu-shi (1968)
The Joy of Torture 2: Oxen Split Torturing (1976)

When I click either one, it brings me to a 404 page.

Both movies and your rating are still there. The same thing happened to a friend of mine who is on here, but about a different movie.

They're still here, but have been marked as "adult". We do this retro-actively when warned by advertisers about explicit content. You'll have to set your age in your profile (hopefully over 18), and then choose to "view adult content".

But in that case, why are they not listed as members of the "adult" genre? How can we tell which movies have been "marked" in this way? Also, are these movies actually "adult" movies, or are these advertisers using some other kind of criterion? If the latter, that raises further questions.

Yeah, that's really on us. We have two ways to designate titles as "adult", and it's confusing.

The first, is when it's really like a porn or erotic movie, and we set the genre to "Adult".

The second... we have an admin flag that marks titles as "adult," though it could also be labeled "no-ads". We do this when we want to remove ads from a title, but don't necessarily think it should be categorized as an adult film. The only reason we call it "adult" is that the desired result is basically the same: hide ads and prevent minors from seeing naughty naughty content.

We do want to make this more streamlined, and know basically how we'll go about doing it. This isn't among the higher priority items, though, because it occurs rather infrequently.
