Unknown characters in past reviews

Post by Mentaculus »

Hey there -

It looks like all my previous reviews have been hit with an unknown character where apostrophes used to be. This also created a weird issue where hitting “Most Recently Starred Reviews”, “Featured Reviews”, so on from the Profile hangs up and doesn’t work. I thought this was just a problem with one of my computers but seems universal across devices and browsers.

Sorry about this everyone! We were moving a better character encoding in our database and there was a little fallout, which I think has now been cleaned up.

Just let us know if you see other areas where things look messed up, and we'll do our best to get them fixed!

We've now fixed up collections, franchises, user city/states, and saved filters! Please let us know if you discover any other areas that look broken, and we'll get them cleaned quick!

Sorry again for the headaches, but this was really an important change for us :)

thanks for these updates!

We've fixed up filmmaker biographies, as well as message subjects and bodies. Let us know if you continue to find other areas where these characters appear!

We're already aware of a small number of films whose titles had characters converted to "?" instead of the proper encoding, and we're in the process of cleaning those up now.

This should be fixed now! We're still cleaning up "?" characters, but think we've finished with the weird black-diamond question marks. If you continue to see the latter, please let us know!

Thanks for fixing it in advance. Btw, which encoding you use?
