Wyler's movies are quite politically charged, but I enjoyed "The Little Foxes" for its dialogue. An ingenue in a svengali pit, with only an ailing, wise father, and a loyal but strong-willed love interest to guide her to maturity.

but if i want some juicy quotes i'll watch peep show.

The Day The Earth Caught Fire has some pretty fantastic British dialogue, Sweet Smell of Success is from a few years earlier and has a noir New York setting instead of a London one but both are fantastic. The storyline in the former is better as it's about the earth's axis shifting and the changing weather patterns ensuing from it and newspaper men looking into the conspiracy.

Other thread (dream combinations) reminded me: Cosmopolis. I was thinking how i don't really care for scripty movies, how it can detract from the cinematic. but Cos is this grotesque onslaught insectlike verbal dance thing. it's disgusting and i love it.

I'd never be able to get past a story line in which "mayhem ensues" was used. You saying that's misleading?

I've liked Ritchie's other stuff, but didn't think the dialogue in them stood out that much. I'll give it a shot.
