Different Versions of the Same Game

Postby Velvet Crowe » Mon Mar 04, 2019 5:50 am

One of the pet peeves I have with adding games onto Criticker is that the mods seem to take issue with me separating handheld versions of the exact same title, even if they're completely different games. I've just put out Tarzan on the GBC to be added to the site, but I get the sense it's going to get denied because it's the same tie in title as the PS1 version.

We should honestly allow and make different entries for handheld titles in circumstances like this. You legit can't drop a review for both the console and handheld versions of a game even if they're literally completely different games. I find that pretty lame.

Splitting the entries would make sense for some of the older games. Because of the system limitations, some ports were... completely different. One example that springs to mind is Dragonflight: MS-DOS version is a 3D flight sim, the SNES version is a overhead shoot-em-up.

Console ports of games such as Ultima 6 were also quite different from the original.

(By the way, off-topic, but I had no idea that Criticker had a game section. It doesn't seem very visible. I only just found it because I Googled for something like 'game recommendations similar sites criticker'.)
