Available at long last in this country, THE KID (based on a Chinese comic book character, and not to be confused with the Charlie Chaplin classic) is most notable for its young star- Bruce Lee. Lee's charisma is evident even this early in his career (this may be his first film, and one of his co-stars is his own father) and it would've been fun to see an entire series of films based on this character. The basic story line of this Chinese horror film resembles The Phantom of the Opera. However, by situating the story against the context of warlords, Song at Midnight injects a heavy dose of social criticism.
