"W3E1P1S1V2M2A1R1. Similar to Greatest Showman in having a banging soundtrack (with only a few utter misses--At All Costs and I'm a Star) marred by a very muddled and confusing movie. Mostly because the villain is totally underdeveloped. But we've watched it many times because the songs are (mostly) just great, and it still has that Disney charm/emotional pull, even if it's clumsy and derivative and not quite as imaginative as the Encantos/Inside Outs of the world."

"W4E1P2S1V1M1A2R2. Occasionally boring, but a great twist on the murder mystery, and a really solid courtroom drama with fun twists and performances (and a fascinating--and presumably accurateish?--look at the French court system). Only knock is that I don't recall being struck by anything--music or a particular shot or the locations--that made it stand out from, eg, a play with the same script. I think that's a knock?"

"W4E2P1S2V2M1A2R2. Not an all time fave, I think because the Strauss thread (while well acted) never had sure footing for me. But certainly the best of the oscar nominees I watched this year, and visually awesome."
29% Damsel (2024) - Rated 11 Mar 2024
"W3E1P1S0V1M1A1R1. Not great, but not as bad as some of the reviews say. But if you haven't yet, DON'T WATCH THE TRAILERS on Netflix. Way too much told in there relative to what's left untold. In the end, a pretty run of the mill fantasy flick, with a female-driven bent, and at least Millie gives a decent effort."
29% John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023) - Rated 19 Feb 2024
"W3E1P0S1V1M1A1R1. Still good of course, and obviously intentionally absurd. But absurd all the same."
10 36% Killers of the Flower Moon (2023) - Rated 19 Feb 2024
"W2E1P2S0V1M1A2R1. As usual, I wish I had read the book first. There are so many interesting angles in the story, and I feel like he chose the most boring one by telling the story through Ernest."
13 64% Mean Girls (2024) - Rated 19 Feb 2024
"W3E2P2S1V1M1A2R1. Never know how to rate a remake when it's biggest strength is the source material. But this was a pretty interesting way to do it--borrowed just enough songs from the musical so you can justify the remake, but few enough that it's a pretty straight adaptation/update of the original movie. Excellent singing from everyone other than the lead."
29% The Marvels (2023) - Rated 13 Nov 2023
"W3E1P0S1V1M1A1R1. They overdeveloped the Carol/Monica drama, underdeveloped (to the point of literally never explaining it ) the entire Kree/Hala backstory, and randomly abandoned the cool switching gimmick at the weirdest point. Fun moments in between."
16 89% Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022) - Rated 10 Nov 2023
"W4E2P2S1V2M1A2R2. Just darn good."
10 36% Galaxy Quest (1999) - Rated 06 Nov 2023
"W3E1P1S1V1M1A1R1. Very bland but good fun."
