Bio: I am older than dirt; yet, somehow I continue to breathe. Ever slowly, like the winter chasing away the fall, I am losing my mind. I can see the the deep face of Death coming near. I stare directly at Him and Laugh. Then, I eat a bacon cheeseburger.

My personal rating scale:

90-100: Masterworks; best I've ever seen
80-89: Great and not to be missed
70-79: Well above average and worth seeing
60-69: Usually worth watching but forgettable
50-59: Slightly below average and nothing lost is missed
40-49: Well below average
30-39: Shitty fare; find something else to do
20-29: Remarkably shitty stuff; better use of time is cleaning the crapper
0-19: Less than shitty; as much fun as a severely thrombosed hemorrhoid

NOTE:

My films ratings form a curve with a negative skew. In other words, more of my rankings fall toward the upper end of my scale than toward the lower end of my scale. To illustrate, as of 07/28/2018, over 60% of my 1287 ratings are 70 or higher. This is simply because we choose to watch titles we believe we'll probably enjoy, and more often than not we usually do. Accordingly, those movies that I rank low generally represent selection "mistakes" of a sort.

87 97% Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens (2015) - Rated 09 May 2016
"Obviously, this won't appeal to everyone, and I did feel some deja vu, since I saw a number of plot similarities between "The Force Awakens" and Lucas's original 1977 "Star Wars." Still, I found myself swept away with the visuals, the excellent acting, the new characters, and emotionally moved by the return of old friends Han, Chewy, Leia, C-3PO, R-2D2, and of course Luke. I'm eagerly awaiting the next episode in 2017. Until then, may the force continue to live with this remarkable series."
80 88% Temple Grandin Temple Grandin (2010) - Rated 24 Sep 2010
"Inspiring, powerful, emotional drama based on the real life of a Temple Grandin, whose mother courageously refused to accept what the medical establishment told her and in so doing helped her daughter to find a life of her own. Winner of 7 Emmys, including Clair Danes for outstanding lead actress and Julia Ormond and David Straithairn for supporting actress and actor. "Temple Grandin" is exceptional among movies made for television (an HBO production)."
80 88% Silver Linings Playbook Silver Linings Playbook (2012) - Rated 18 May 2013
"Very original, fresh and different story with some memorable, idiosyncratic characters and first-rate acting. Like the characters in the film, the plot took me on a emotional roller coaster, ranging from sadness and grief, grueling conflict and anguish, humor, and finally a profoundly moving and satisfying joy. I really wish Hollywood would come up with more films of such high quality as "Silver Linings Playbook," but I guess one must suffer watching all the dreck to find the true gems."
96 99% The Dark Knight The Dark Knight (2008) - Rated 05 Jun 2011
""The Dark Knight" is a truly memorable film that rises far above the action genre and lives in the realm of art. Why this movie failed to receive an Oscar nomination at the very least befuddles my mind. Heath Ledger as the Joker created perhaps the greatest villain since Hannibal Lecter and delivered the following immortal line: "Do I really look like a guy with a plan? You know what I am? I'm a dog chasing cars. I wouldn't know what to do with one if I caught it. You know, I just... do things!""
77 81% What We Did On Our Holiday What We Did On Our Holiday (2014) - Rated 12 Dec 2015
"Marvelously screwy, offbeat and highly original film filled with humor, poignancy and a grandfather conveying to his grandchildren the wisdom of one who is soon to depart life. As far as Rosamund Pike goes, goodness gracious: no human being deserves to be THAT good looking! ;)"
