"Poor casting, poor pacing, poor cinematography, completely forced maudlin weepy drama. It's not bad, but its a completely mediocre imitation of the great neo-western/neo-noir style the Coen brothers frequently worked with or maybe season one of True Detective for an even more recent comparison. It's all of the things I didn't like about Sheridan's Sicario script without all of the things I liked about Villeneuve and Deakins. I will say in it's favor that both of the shootouts were great."

"Eschews the blood and gore you might expect from an Argento, a Martino, or especially a Fulci, in favor of tension and dread. Quite deserving of a restoration. Surprised Arrow hasn't picked it up considering the fantastic work they've done on other lesser known gialli."

"Some interesting animation paired with a hackneyed brand of freshman English dystopian sci-fi that I maybe could have found naively charming if this was based on a victorian novel. Populating your fictional world with Dr. Seuss flora and fauna doesn't make 'can't we all just get along' a more interesting theme."

"Fulci presents a vision of NYC where every man in the city is a rapist, a whoremonger, or some other variety of demented pervert. One of runs around doing Donald Duck impressions while he cuts women to pieces, but there's so much casual cruelty that he hardly seems more degenerate than the rest of the bunch."

"Weak praise to say that its better than the Ayer disaster, but it's also better than the Birds of Prey followup. Still I think think the first Guardians was Gunn's best directorial effort, and he peaked as a writer on Scooby Doo and Tromeo and Juliet."
