"Some funny scenes, but as with the Ron Howard adaptation it suffers because there isn't much to adapt. The entire plot can be summed up in three sentences, so the rest is filler (In the book the filler was mostly cute rhymes and wordplay). I enjoyed the family invented as protagonists for this version of the film and the plot surrounding them, but even after adding that there was too much empty space to fill up by the film creators, and they end up with an awkwardly paced mess."

"My favorite thing about this film was how different it was in tone to Rogue One. While I love R1, these two movies together show the intent of the "inbetweener" movies of the saga. R1 was the dark and gritty war movie that just happened to be set in Star Wars instead of Kabul. Solo is the lighthearted action comedy/buddy/heist movie that just happens to be set in Star Wars instead of Las Vegas. Some "safe" choices, but overall entertaining, great cast and Donald Glover needs his own Lando movie."

Something along these lines is attributed to Leia Organa in the movie, and it's also a running theme. Rian Johnson's entry into the Star Wars cannon is filled with breathtaking cinematography and a wide range of emotions, but most of all it's very committed to its themes, like freeing oneself from putting too much importance on tradition and lineage, and maintaining hope when none is in sight."
