"A modest story with an excellent performer in Harvey Kietel, 'Bad Lieutenant' patrols the life of a conflicted man, rather than a corrupt cop. Although it may seem to many viewers a montage of drug consumption, Abel Ferrara's Super 8 cameras roll through the back alleys of New York City, through the 'Lieutenant's' abysmal decline, and pragmatic and painful monologue with his Catholic maker."
