92 28% American History X (1998) - Rated 28 Jan 2008
"Both of the Edward's in this movie give excellent performances, as well as Avery Brooks. This is a movie where the ending (even if you know it or figured it out) leaves you feeling numb. After viewing, I couldn't physically move for about 10 minutes. The film does shove the message down your throat, but its a message that deserved to be."
92 28% Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975) - Rated 28 Jan 2008
"An extremely funny comedy that spoofs medieval age mythology as we know it. The two peasants arguing about government and civics at the beginning is classic in my opinion. A movie almost universally enjoyed."
87 14% The Usual Suspects (1995) - Rated 17 Jan 2008
"Stellar film with a brilliant performance by Spacey. The ending is excellent, though not completely unexpected."
100 71% Seven Samurai (1954) - Rated 17 Jan 2008
"Excellent in every degree. An engaging epic that truly lets you know the characters and feel for them. Everytime one of the seven is struck down, you feel a part of you go down with them. The final battle portion of this film is excellent and the aftermath is well directed and key to the whole film. You must see this film."
100 71% The Godfather (1972) - Rated 17 Jan 2008
"A perfect film in my opinion. It excels in every aspect, whereas most films may in only 1 or 2. Marlon Brando gives a stellar performance, as does Al Pacino, Caan, and Duvall. Francis Ford Coppola does excellent directing and really has his heart in it. The soundtrack is phenomenal, with one of the most memorable scores of all time. One thing I put against it is that it doesn't hold up extremely well with repeats. That coupled with the 3 hour running time can be hard sometimes."
64 0% Citizen Kane (1941) - Rated 17 Jan 2008
"Ugh. Overrated. Definitely not the "best picture of all time" as AFI calls it. The best part of the movie is Orson Welles performance, which is marvelous. The other acting leaves a lot to be desired and the film is dragged down by the "Rosebud" plothole which keeps me from seeing the movie seriously. Screenplay is also excellent, and the film certainly pioneered techniques, but it's not all it's made out to be."
97 57% The Shawshank Redemption (1994) - Rated 17 Jan 2008
"Great casting, great acting, great directing and a great screenplay. This is one of those films you can watch 100 times and still see something new or not get bored. Everytime I see the ending, I still feel that feeling I felt the first time."
