Summary: On the great beautiful estate Næsbygård resides the widower and landlord Martin Kaas. His only grandson 17-year-old Martin has returned from Italy, where his parents were killed in a plane crash. He is the only enemy of the great beautiful estate. Martin and his grandfather feel strongly connected to each other. The boy is sent to the landlord's cousin in Texas to learn about cattle breeding on his large cattle farm. The landlord's good friend Pastor Pripp comforts him in his loneliness.
