Right out of the gate, this show was firing on all cylinders. With nary a wasted moment, this episode establishes the characters, their relationships, the mystery, the humor, and the innovative cinematic style of the show. I was definitely hooked by the end.

By the time this came out, Moffat had already won acclaim for his part in the updated version of "Doctor Who", so it comes as no surprise that "Sherlock" has a quality and attention to detail in writing that is leagues above the majority of TV out there. It certainly helps that some awesome casting choices were made, my personal favorite is Freeman as Watson. He nailed it. A great start to a fantastic series.

One of my favorite episodes, mostly because the interactions and the dialog are pitch perfect. The start of an amazing series.

Hollywood, take notice. This is how you make a Sherlock Holmes adaptation. In one word: brilliant!

it is ridiculous how fantastic this is as a pilot. i have never seen a pilot so good, and probably never will. they way the show just brings you into its world and introduces you to its characters, they way it establishes itself without lulling on the action and the delicious wit that most shows don't develop until their second season, is truly mind-boggling. it is seriously impossible for someone to watch 10 minutes of this show and not fall in love with every aspect of it.

Amazingly well done TV launch of a modern day Watson and Holmes. Cumberbatch and Freeman are both perfect in their roles. The short season leave me always wanting more.

A strong beginning to this invigorating take on Conan Doyle's great detective, and unlike the Richie movies this one actually plays into the whole detecting stick, which feels like a really good idea for some reason...

Still my favorite episode of the series. Contains the best "Sherlock sums up all the clues that let him know something instantly" scenes of the series, does a great job building the dynamics between the characters. Great final scene between Sherlock and the villain, and establishes the aesthetics of the show well.

Cumberbatch as Sherlock is such an unlikeable character, that he becomes fascinating to follow. Well functioning, perhaps, but still a sociopath that cares for no one - only figuring out the puzzle matters. A great mix between old and new, and very entertaining.

The now classic duo first meeting is refreshing, exciting and mesmerizing. That's why they are now worldly famous. I really like the plot and the villain.

An entertaining run at the Sherlock Holmes legend set in modern day London. Deductions too incredible to believe are commonplace here. The suspect became too predictable since they set it up too well, and you would have to be an idiot not to make the connection. The finale was pretty weak, but foretells of more episodes to come. Sherlock himself comes off as arrogant and condescending. However, it was fun to watch, and I want to see future installments.

A great revisiting of Sherlock, much more adherent to the characters than the recent films even attempt. I love the relationship between Sherlock & Holmes, which hits every note perfectly. The only downside was a somewhat underwhelming climax, but I'm excited to see the next one.

I really enjoyed this entertaining modern version of Holmes. There is a nice chemistry between Watson and Holmes. And the classic first case of Holmes is improved greatly from the source material. The visual clues added are a clever way of letting the viewer in on Holmes' thoughts.

Uneven but interesting. Naturally, the performances are great, but the script has some odd notions; the reasoning of the victims never made sense, the reveal of the murderer in the story happened way after it was obvious who it was, and there are some truly absurd lines. But the ideafulness of the execution manages to overcome... *some* of this.

A pretty entertaining Sherlock mystery that does a good job of introducing the characters and setting without sidetracking the story.

Top notch production value; a quick, witty script; and a more than solid cast results in a proficient retooling of the classic detective under Moffat and Gatiss, even if the mystery and its unveiling is ultimately more stylish than logical in it execution.

They have rankings for individual episodes now? Well with Sherlock it's kinda helpful actually. This is a pretty strong introduction to a modern take on the source. Struggles a bit with tone and pace but holds together through good performances and slick presentation.

A Study in Pink is a perfectly written, perfectly performed, perfectly paced and perfectly filmed start for the Sherlock series. Right from the start the style and intrigue are stunning and intelligent. As a pilot goes and as a movie all its own, this opening stands atop the best beginnings of all time.

The very first episode of the series had me hooked. Real solid. I was a bit disappointed by the fact Sherlock seemed out-played by the villain in the end, but what a great introduction to the characters. Cumberbatch and Freeman just seem like the perfect Holmes and Watson.

Not the Saw-core flashbacks and overall editing at times. I gotta say, Sherlock is kinda insufferable, but it was fun enough of a watch.
