Low resolution propaganda "film" regurgitating all the hot topics from "hetero normativity" to "corrupt white police". The "race" layer/symbolism lacks any sophistication or nuance. As if it was written/directed by some talented woke 14 year old, who just started to read "An Introduction to Critical Race Theory" on the same day he bumped into Nancy Glass's Dahmer interview on youtube. This is what you get when creators are not independent artists anymore but (confused) professional activists.

If you can get past the inherent exploitative nature of true crime dramas, this is great. For those who were fans of Peters in AHS, he was basically born for this role, and Jenkins is almost as good. All the scenes in Dahmer's apartment are the most intense, anxiety-inducing true crime media I've experienced besides Zodiac. At certain points I felt nauseous, which considering the subject matter is high praise. The downside is finding out how NF ran roughshod over the victims' families wishes.

They made a noticeable effort to include a great deal of the recorded details. The dramatization, however, is pretty netflixy. It's sentient but shallow, tacky, easy on the senses and politically correct. Dahmer is way too airbrushed, his father's psychology is laid on very thick, and when the series tries to humanize the victims, it makes them so cute it rather has the opposite effect. The criticism of institutional racism, while warranted, didn't need shoving down our throats.

Serial killer TV is Netflix's bread and butter. Great series, gross attention to detail but they mix some stuff around and you feel like a total ghoul for knowing. Lionel Dahmer was just the worst possible person to be a father, guy was hell bent on creating the perfect monster.

Evan Peters is arresting, sexy and spot-on in this role, but unfortunately he's the only reason to watch this show. The sidestories of victims feel like a clumsy way to balance the scales that are naturally offset by idolizing a serial killer.. by making yet another feature about him. The WHY? and WHAT NOW? about these insane murderers isn't interesting i think. Artistically better is to pick his perspective and stick with it- we all know it's pretty fucked up to consume it.

This stressed me the hell out. It is not graphic heavy, more suspense.

Wilfully confuses the facts to sell lame killer tropes and plump points on systemic racism and child neglect. It's fiction, really. Dahmer was liked by his peers, he never cared for his victims' color and he never blamed his upbringing once. He was a cunning weirdo who inexplicably went batshit crazy. This series digs out everyone's trauma to spin a tragedy into a semi-coherent popcorn-story to make soccer moms go "oh, i sure hope he's not going to do what i know he's going to do!"

Starts out fine but extremely drags at the end and is entirely speculative. Kinda bad Television. They coulve made it 6 hours shorter and it wouldve been good

Overly dramatised, incredibly political correct, pretty netflixy TV Series. Although the story is interesting, I don't think it's enough to make a 10 episodes mini series. This would've been much better if it was 5 episodes. The victims and their families were portrayed as the best people in the world. The racism card was exhausting to watch since they were trying to push that into our eyes non-stop. I've also read that plenty of details have been changed. I wish Netflix could surprise me once.

Eu assisti metade disso na noite da eleição, porque psicopata por psicopata eu prefiro um que já esteja morto, mas nem sei se vou terminar. Quem sabe no segundo turno. Rá!

Decent but tame retelling of the story with good performances. On a side note, the short spurt of John Wayne Gacy looked like a more horrific story to tell.

Graphic and gruesome at first, this then attempts an in-depth look into the man and his life, making an effort to examine the nature vs. nurture of what makes a monster. Drags a bit though, no more so than the final few episodes which dedicate too much time to the civil rights & victims’ families angles and kill the momentum as a result (although the notion of Netflix chastising anyone for profiting from serial killers is truly hilarious). Jenkins stands out, putting in a shift as JD’s dad.

Interesting but it's being a little bit dragged out with the last episodes.

Victim impact statements aren’t interesting! Nobody tuned in to hear how Dahmer’s actions affected his victims' families, neighbors, and other randos. It's boring. Even his victims themselves aren't AT ALL interesting. A sad truth perhaps, but they aren't part of why this story is fascinating. Making them seem like important players is dishonest. The only interesting thing about Dahmer is the WHO and WHY. 10% case study, 90% woke BS. A great performance by Peters gone to waste. What a shame.

Exploitive and drags on way too long. It’s not that the acting is bad, but do the victims family need to be dragged through this I wonder.

The middle episodes drag a bit, but everything has its place. There is plenty of humanity, craft, and care on display, with good tension and quality acting.

most of the series is poring over Dahmer's life going "oh why is he like this, oh he's so hot, oh he's so tragic". sometimes they tell the stories from the victim's angle, but it's only so much. it's a compelling story and moments hold a looot of tension, but leaves quite an icky feeling in the mouth, but that's exploitation.
