Chappelle isn't lying when he says he's too good. His set is introspective, honest, and socially conscious. And yet, it's still hilarious, sharp, and offensive. A man who has truly conquered the comedy world.

This set had me roll my eyes at points, but Chappelle could read a grocery list for an hour and I'd be captivated.

Another solid set from Chappelle. It's observant and personal and funny.

The start of a weaker second part of his Netflix specials. His socio-political analyses has always been low-resolution, so his jokes don't bode well in this very political, very serious, and even sanctimonious special -- he ought to stick to his vague surrealism. Still manages to stay afloat with some quality gags (good stuff early on which prove why he makes the big bucks), but there's unfortunately far greater spaces between jokes here than in his consistently hilarious other specials.

One of the first things he says is that he's too good at comedy that's it's almost boring now. Honestly he's not wrong. He's worked the material but it's more natural than most stand-up you see and feels real to life and socially conscious while still being funny and not pulling punches. It's more important and artful than the jokes on specials that so many recent stand-ups are getting where it looks like they are either poorly acting or so practiced/choreographed it hurts my ability to enjoy it

Dave is somewhat out of touch without how he and his vernacular will be perceived, and in some cases, his comments are out of touch in and of themselves. But he is remains one of the most astute people in the world at understanding what people are actually after with their anger and outrage, and that insight is why he's the best stand-up to ever walk the Earth.

I laughed harder than I'd care to admit when he screamed "COAL?!" Still, Chappelle is kind of a mixed bag. His political jokes and that true historical story at the end are extremely hilarious and heartfelt, respectively, there are still some concerns. He recognizes how harmful his trans jokes are but doesn't stop, rather incorporating his "awareness" into the act, and some of his bits drag on way too long to merit the punchline. Still, credit to a legend at his craft.

Announcing straight off the bat that you're the greatest is a bit of a gamble. Imagine how good he'd be if he gave up the unfunny garbage about transgender people?

Dave Chappelle's charisma is indisputable and that ensures "Equanimity" is an above par offering despite the rather large gaps between punchlines. At his best, he displays an enviable mastery and command over his material and his audience. The problem is "Equanimity" is overall neither that funny nor that often funny.
