While Brick enlists the help of an impoverished girl and her son, the bad guys enlist the help of a local gang. When word leaks out as to his location, and all hell breaks loose. Brick is besieged by an onslaught of curious kids, angry gang members, and his own doll-sized enemies. (imdb)

A frustratingly low budget sci-fi movie, a genre that by its very nature eats up money. But even in concept, "Dollman" oozes a b-movie essence that flourishes when put into a kids movie. It's almost like a Bruce Campbell movie without any humor and 50% less chin.

Dear Albert Pyun, never stop sucking. No one does it weirder than you.

Top badass moment? Urban fuckin' renewal! This is a movie about a do-gooder living in a rubbish area, who wants people to get involved, volunteer and “make a difference” to their local community. What a loser. Everyone knows that the human race is soon to be doomed to a terrifying death on a global scale. It’s also got a 13” tall (or 12” tall if you believe everything you read on IMDB) alien, Dirty Harry style detective in it too. 1 (pre-made) decapitation, no cats or chainsaws.

When you watch collaboration between Charles Band and Albert Pyun you should know that you'll be watching (bad movie)squared. Considering this, it's not as bad as it is dull. I blame Pyun and his lifelong delusion that he's making a serious movie. The whole 'it's tough life in the ghetto' plot just burdens the fun set up about tiny sized alien cop in sunglasses (Thomerson just does a slight variation of his character in Trancers).

Weird, wacky, b-grade flick from autistic auteur Pyun merges all kinds of different genres: z grade sci fi, 80's touch guy action films and modern urban thrillers. The concept is daft and not nearly as well fleshed out or executed as it ought to be, but it gets by mostly on the strength of Tim Thomerson's wry performance. The urban message seems a little incongruous with the film's cheesy b-movie aspirations though. A guilty pleasure.

Such a premise requires decent, even if unbelievable VFX to work out. Well, this movie doesn't have that, so it doesn't work. And I think it's more due to laziness than lack of budget.

There are moments of brilliance in Dollman, a movie that oozes with pulp imagery and stylish cyberpunk film sets. There are many more moments of mediocrity and atrociously amateur film-making, however, which makes Dollman pretty difficult to watch much of the time.

The concept seemed funny at first, and the first 30 minutes were dumb but entertaining. Especially due to the crazy gun. But the movie doesn't know where to go next and makes no sense. There is no tension afterward, no good moment. They make half a movie feel like a rushed 10 minutes of nonsense. They can't even keep the size consistant and they barely try either.
