Wait, so when has Goku dying ever stopped him? Hasn't he died like 7 times in the series' history? God, I'm showing my nerdom strong. The movie's OK, in a bloated 6-yr-old Japanese moralism kind of way. And very refreshing is the movie's disregard for the series' patented interminable exposition - so in its favor, this doesn't make me want to gauge my eyes out with a spoon.

By far the best Dragon Ball franchise film in spite of the fact that everyone already knows how it starts and ends. It probably works because Trunks is the most full-fledged character in Z despite how little he appears in that series. Despite the upside, it still barely rises to mediocre for all the reasons you might expect from a film which begins with the words Dragon Ball Z.
