Fatherland

The book was an airport novel classic that I loved when I was 14, but this adaptation is cheap looking and rips up the whole last act, replacing it with what's basically a Hallmark Hitler Youth conclusion. Amazon could remake this fairly easily seeing as they managed The Man in the High Castle just fine (at least until the series finale).

a brilliant premise and hauer's screen presence elevate this above political-thriller mediocrity. i bet the book by robert harris is way more conclusive, you sort of feel the struggle they had, what to put in, what to leave out and what to graze while rushing past. it's just too much for a tv movie adaptation, and while the fake nazi-berlin scenery was a nice treat, the production values mostly could not live up to a plot of this scale.
