Late Show with David Letterman

I never really cared much for Dave as a host - an opinion that's heresy to many, but there it is. Remember when Top Ten Lists were all the rage with the youths? Good times, good times.

Letterman himself is good but the interviews and segments aren't very memorable.

Too long a run to hope to remain consistent, but he was miles ahead of everyone but Carson as far as late night humor went. He also wasn't afraid to be weird, to good or bad effect.

Until recently, I'd never been alive without Letterman on the air in some form or another. His influence is clear, and though the show dwindled on until it petered out, it was always enjoyable enough to not reach for the off button on the remote.

Banal.

I never saw his earlier show so I don't know how great he once was, but I always did love tuning in when this was on, and while even Dave himself would admit he was not at his best during those final years, some of the hatred I have seen towards him on the internet is truly baffling. He was a great interviewer and his strange, subtle, idiosyncratic sense of humor influenced nearly every comedian, up to and including those admired by his critics.

Pointless as far as I could ever tell.
