Law and Order

Very good documentary.

I found most of this fascinating, thought-provoking thanks to its naturalistic complexity (Wiseman, to those unfamiliar, only documents and does not comment) and moving. Decades later there were reality shows attempting something similar to this, but nothing as rich and powerful. Definitely better than High School.

As with all Wiseman films, a disciplined look at the various aspects of an institution in this case police on the beat. The film is particularly powerful at portraying policeman as people in the sense of individuals with thoughts and feelings about the institution they serve. In this way, the chats between fellow officers in their squad cars while on duty are enthralling (Wiseman films, edits and presents such meetings like no one else).

An even-handed, powerful, and upsetting look at police, race relations, poverty, and all sorts of American issues we still struggle with.

you know how they say "you couldn't make this movie nowadays"? this movie is a miracle and also one of the most depressing things i've ever seen. fuck 12
