Maigret Sets a Trap

I think it gets lost between two styles - one being a noir thriller and the other a family friendly TV movie.

Competently produced, but this plot has been done to death, and Atkinson is miscast.

It's not the best episode to get you interested in the series, unfortunately

A Simenon story finds reasonably decent direction and also reasonably decent acting, things work, in general, well. It's just hard to look at Atkinson and not see Mr. Bean; his acting, here, is still kinda too self conscious (it feels like it's the character playing the character). For a not super ambitious production it's a fine work. I just want to say, David Dawson is a great actor, I just hope he'll receive greater recognition in days to come.

Mr. Bean transforms himself into the French police detective Maigret and solves a few murders. ITV crime drama. Predictable story, below average sets, but good television nonetheless with Rowan Atkinson looking sharp in the role without needing much effort.
