Utterly mesmerising. I am in love with these late-period Clarke movies; the style just hits me right in the sweet spot and they're not long enough to warrant complaints about shallow characterisation. Lesley Sharp's monologue has gotta be, like, top 10 scenes of all time, surely.

Small but ambitious. We never really get to know any of the characters, but they still make a bid for our sympathy through their monologues - even the dialogues here are monologues. These are very life-sized people in a social-realist setting, using mundane language, to achieve an utterly theatrical effect, and ultimately something just a bit larger than life.
