Really cool if your expectations are non-existent

Having watched every episode from 2006 (the second season) to 2014, and always in the perfect company for doing so, it seems clear that Nigel Lythgoe has every right to feel proud of having fashioned something great from what is unquestionably one of the very worst television formats, that of so-called "reality TV".

How much can you really make of a show like this? Not exactly deep.

Seasons 2-7 or 8 are solid reality television with a lot of talent split between the dancers and the choreographers. Things have been slowly declining since then, and recently plummeted with this most recent season of "stage vs. street". For what it is, SYTYCD is a poorly crafted reality show that gave a stage to incredibly talented individuals/artists, and it deserves credit for that. It is having a hard time adjusting to a world where American Idol is no longer relevant, unfortunately.
