In true network TV "we have a hit on our hands" fashion, this went on much longer than it should have, but seasons 2-5 were excellent. Creed was the stealth MVP.

Although not as good as the original (what is?) this show takes a life of it's own after the dismal pilot episode. The side characters absolutely transform this show from just another run of the mill remake. Steve Carell does his best to distance himself from David Brent and that's a good thing, as his character is above and beyond the greatest aspect of the show (YES....even better than Pam and Jim...whom I love) Unlike most shows going out, the finale works extremely well. Must watch TV!

Jim is my least favorite character in the history of television. He is a human laugh track, condescending not only to the characters of the show, but to the home audience, as if we're too stupid to laugh without being signaled by one of his copypasted grimaces to the camera. Everything positive about the show gets sucked into the void of Jim, leaving a trail of cynicism and diffidence in his wake. Parks and Recreation is the same format as this. It is one of the best shows ever. It has no Jim.

Even the filler episodes are interesting because of the varied cast. Steve Carell was a cringefest sometimes. Pam and Jim were fine but not really the highlight of the show for me. Fav scenes: Jim's pranks and Dwight's misfortunes, especially the pumpkin head; Threat Level Midnight

Michael Scott is one of the most well done characters in anything I've ever seen. He has a rare talent of making literally anything cringey. The only downfall of this otherwise amazing show is the stupid Jim-Pam relationship which is the worst relationship I have ever had the displeasure of viewing. Scotts Tots is the greatest!

The big mistake this show does is trying to copy the original BBC version of The Office instead of trying to be its own thing. After a couple seasons, it actually tries to be something original, and gets much better. However, it turns into an everlasting drama which jumps a lot of sharks, and the loss of Steve Carrell is the nail in the coffin of this show. Started average, became good, ended average to boring.

Some of the best painfully awkward comedy I've seen. It really took a quick dive though, when they started to try to make Michael a more sympathetic character. The Jim/Pam dynamic was only moderately interesting from the beginning, and they really beat it to death. Like nearly all successful American sitcoms, it overstayed its welcome. But its peak was strong enough to make it a memorable show.

Incredibly well. It gets better once the show starts to focus on the side characters such as Kevin, Meredith, Oscar, Creed, Kelly. Very detail oriented. You can find very funny details in nearly each scene or even a small gesture of a seemingly unimportant character. After a while, you may experience an emotional bond with the show.

The loss of Steve Carell , the heart and soul of The Office is a painful one and the series wanders from that point on, but for a good chunk of the run, it's silly and funny and sweet.

The ultimate feel good network comedy of a generation. And hugely influential, as networks began to evolve away from the laugh track and into a more grounded form of humanist comedy. I could never get into Modern Family and struggled with Parks and Rec (though eventually got over it) based on how severely I loved this. Creed is the greatest. Stanley nickels for life.

Seasons 1-10: Comedy with heart. While the lesser seasons declined, never did it feel like a chore to watch, and I applaud it for that. Carell, Krasinski, and Wilson are all impeccable and the loss of the former definitely brings the show down, but that doesn't mean it's not worth a watch.

(I'm sharing my opinon... it'll be unpopular.) Until MGS leaves, this is a mediocre show. He never made me laugh .. maybe smile once in every three episodes. I'm representing a minority who found MGS unbearable yet watched every episode. So let me tell you this, if you hated MGS as much as I do, don't quit. Just watch 4 episodes per season and then every episode after him. It'll become a great comedy after him I promise. Full of laughter and emotion...

It's about as average as you can get. Has some truly great moments but also mixed with some very repetitive, annoying shit that just never seems to end. Pam/Jim is dragged on for like 5 seasons before they finally get together, Ryan/fat Indian chick is always popping up to no one's delight, and Dwight and weird blonde woman is always lurking in the background. The finale is actually quite good but it loses a lot when Carell leaves and they should've ended it. Creed was the best character

Started a downhill spiral after season 3. It was still passable for the most part, but it had lost a lot of its luster to the point where I didn't even watch the last season. Still, I'd easily recommend the first 3 or 4 seasons.

S1 struggles as it mimics the British style too closely, however Office US really finds it's feet in S2 and from there until the end of Carell's run in S7 there are so many great episodes. While lesser, for me S8 still entertains on the whole, but S9 is terrible until the final 3 double length episodes sends the series off in fan pleasing fashion.

The Michael-less seasons do take a hit, but you know, there never came a time with this show where I wasn't enjoying it anymore. It helped that they tried to fill the void with multiple celebrities -- Will Ferrell, James Spader, Catherine Tate. Carell is a wonderful actor and could turn in a thousand Foxcatchers, but I don't think he'll ever top the comedy genius in this. The whole cast is marvelous, of course, but Michael Scott will go down as iconic.

The Office is a documentary style TV series about the employees of a lackluster paper sales firm. It's a show that easy to get for anyone who's suffered through the 9 to 5 job, everything from office clicks to the stir crazy madness and a few truly romantic moments. The Office was initially a British TV series but unlike most British TV the the U.S. bastardizes, The Office retains the dry abstract and brutally honest British humor. And the U.S. version may actually be better than the British.

Hard for me to rate (god, I seem to be typing that a lot rating TV shows on Criticker). In its season 2-3 peak, it was very nearly my favorite show on television. Watched every episode live; looked forward to it all week. In its season 7-8 doldrums... hard to sit through. Still, tons of laughs, great episodes, and classic moments. Overall, I carry much, much more fondness than bitterness for it.

The first couple of seasons where the Jim and Pam romance hasn't really become a thing are the best. After that, the episodes are really hit and miss. The American run of the series is superior in almost every way to the British one. Kudos to Gervais and Merchant for giving us some great starting material, but man, we took it and ran.

One of my favorite all time comedies once again finds itself ending on a little bit of a rusty note. It was the middle seasons that really made the show legendary and hilarious. Steve Carell is of course one of the funniest people on the planet and everyone else plays their character to perfection. Diversity is key in a show like this and we are presented with a cast of zany characters who always find themselves in the most unlikely of situations. It's often awkward, yet impossible not to laugh.

Season 1 followed the original very closely and thus felt slightly cramped. Soon though this remake found its own identity and at its peak (arguably seasons 2 to 6) managed to expand upon the original's cringe comedy, instill it with brilliant new ideas and characters, nail the emotional side of things and of course put together an ensemble cast for the ages, including an amazing Steve Carell. Still some things run their course and seasons 7 to 9, although still amusing, were far from essential.

How do I rate The Office? Do I reward the perfecting of the television mockumentary style of the first 5-ish seasons? Or do I have to relive the consistently diminishing returns that was everything following the resolution of the Jim and Pam story line? At the end of the day the way this show ended can't undo what was the first 4 seasons of one of the greatest sitcoms to ever grace prime time television.

Season two established a firmer ground for the show - although not a very consistent one, to tell the truth (ahem S1, S6, S9). While it certainly has its moments of glory and moments of comedic genius, at many other moments the show feels just ALMOST fresh, as if it needs a small ingredient to make it great. It might be due to a post Parks & Rec syndrome, where The Office loses simply because we are not in 2006 anymore. But then the sporadic polit-correct leftist drivel doesn't help much either.

It's impossible for me not to compare this to the UK Office! It takes the innovative UK style and applies more middle-of-the-road sit-com tropes making it cartoonish and sentimental, and the characters much more likeable — not a factor we brits care as much for! Great fun and well written though. I'm into the third series and have no idea how the momentum will keep going for the next thirty or however many there are.

For me the Office was one of those hit or miss kind of shows. I didn't really like the first season that much at all, and the seasons after that were always mixed. They were mostly good, but there would be a handful of episodes every season that just didn't click with me. While I wouldn't call it a favorite series by any means, I'm glad I watched it and I'll miss seeing the characters and all their antics.

A lot of mediocre to lame writing occasionally salvaged by the performers who are clearly putting a lot of effort into it (sometimes too much effort). The fact that this relies so much on improvisation & collaborative writing combined with the episodic structure makes this uneven, repetative & annoying in the long run but it's a good enough distraction in small doses or to take your mind off your hangover or something.

Soapy and very much a sitcom, it may be inferior to the original, but it's still a great show, and I wasn't sorry to go through all 9 seasons of the thing. Good thing that Steve Carell left when he did because his shtick started wearing out, and his character started feeling a bit stuck. Not saying he wasn't great, Michael Scott is probably the second-greatest character in there, after Dwight, of course. Anyway, nothing was lost with him leaving, and the show went on to a satisfying conclusion.

Its first season tries to parrot the awkwardness of the British original, but the second through fifth seasons are comic gold - full of fun supporting characters and sweet relationships as the office grows and supports each other as coworkers. After Carell leaves the show, it's still watchable in an amusing way, but a lot of the emotional heart leaves when Michael Scott departs.
