There is no genre filmmaker in the world today that dares to shoot a screwball/romantic comedy with this amount of dark tones, dead bodies, violent scenes, body fluids and hilarious (but heartbreaking) friendzone moments. Blind Detective is maybe too long, but every surreal sequence of this couple of weirdos trying to solve cases by realistically reenacting them is worth your time. Sound design stands out, as well as the creative use of the 2.35:1, which endorses every bit of histrionism.

WTF. Why is everyone screaming all their lines? This is an absolute horrible piece of entertainment. Stay clear.

As others have noted it's too long, but still enjoyable. A crazy movie that flips between Comedy and dark crime thriller, tho not always successfully. Worth a watch.

Lots to like here, but I couldn't handle the madness for 2+ hours.

it was so long. it clumsily tries to tell too many stories at once, making the reveal of what happened to minnie not matter anymore because we've been sidetracked so many times along the way. i can see that it was attempting to be humorous, but it was so twisted weird sadisitic and shouty about it that i didn't laugh at all. seeing johnnie to's name on this is just plain confusing since he's a good director and this was just a mess.

eng; [Blind Detective]; ein blinder detektiv löst alte mordfälle bei denen er seine vorstellungskraft auspielen kann - und agiert später im team als er auf eine frau trifft, die ein nachbarskind vermisst.; (etwas chaotisch anmutend aber lustig und gut gespielt);

Half the time this feels like a melodramatic parody of a To movie, the other half a worse version of Mad Detective. There's a lot of humor, but none of it works for me. Still a competent work, as you'd expect.

To shifts from police action to buddy cop to romcom to dark thriller and back again in this. While he does has the beat of the various genres down in their sequences, the tone of these different genre don't mix well. They distract from instead of adding to each other. Making the total movie less than the sum of its part. The other big problem is that Lau in his ignorance of his partners feelings for him emotionally abuses her, making it impossible to keep emotionally invested in his character

It's an interesting premise, but the execution was all over the place. It tries to be funny, but largely fails. Goes from comedy to weird to dark and just doesn't entirely work mainly because the plot doesn't work that much. It feels like things are just strung together without a lot of thought. Add in that the main character is not very likable and it was a very underwhelming movie. It has good moments, but those are overshadowed by the bad.

Little weird movie combining quirky rom/comedy with very dark thriller. Sometimes it works sometimes not really.

Viewed April 4, 2021. A gorgeous and very funny hybrid of a romantic comedy and a whodunit thriller, with a sprawling scope and two brilliant lead performances from Andy Lau and Sammi Cheng.

It could have been a 2 episodes mini series maybe, as it felt long, but otherwise it was unusual and funny at times. A lot of shouting though.
