I haven't seen that many Romanian films, so this was a nice surprise. It's a neo-noir with Tarantino influences; especially in the structure. Characters were interesting. Vlad Ivanov was especially good as the stone-faced lead and reminded me of lead actors from the 60's & 70's. The whistling language was interesting but could have been better utilized in the story. Ending should have been stronger and it was not as clever as hoped. All in all, worth a watch but could have been a lot better.

Twisty crime thriller starts off well, setting up an intriguing array of noir-like characters and setting them loose in a convoluted and complicated narrative - unfortunately drastically loses its way once it becomes clear that the sole goal is to confuse and befuddle the viewer unnecessarily; at a certain point, there is really no reason to tell this story in such and opaque and confusing way. Some nice cinematography and a game cast help keep things watchable.

structured like a 90's tarantino movie, la gomera's defining premise sounds cool on theory, but it's quite dumb when you think about it. criminals employ a whistling language to circumvent police surveillance. but all in all, they whistle like three phrases for literally one occasion, and they could have probably gotten anonymous prepaid phones like the main character actually does in the movie. it IS watchable, but not inspiring or memorable in any way, except for catrinel's stunning looks.
