Black cinema looks so much stronger silent then those embarrassing negro pictures done in the 1930s sound era. The moral tale of Ten Nights in a Barroom (1926) becomes dramatic and well composed. Charles Gilpin shows his class as an actor as the broken down man and the unmistakable Lawrence Chenault makes a perfect sleaze, as he's shown in several all-black pictures of the silent era. Of course done on a budget, they overcome that nicely for a mostly positive experience.
