A decent film that's wrapped in undeserved bombastic score, making it feel ridiculously melodramatic.

It might have more impact as a historical tale if the protagonist hadn't written the script.

Harsh political/corporate consequences of news reporting wrapped in a fairly average script and brought to life by a team of exceptional members of the acting profession. Cate Blanchett nails her part, and to me this was her best role of 2015. Robert Redford as 60-Minutes' Dan Rather help cement what was going on on-screen. And there were a ton a good performances underneath which kinda got pushed in the background because of those up-front doing a remarkable job. And that's probable the films m

It's a rather powerful story, told decently... I remember it pretty well... and I didn't feel like I learned much new. And it was a bit mawkish... overly sentimental about journalism. But it wasn't bad...

This movie is only interesting to people who are truly involved in politics, no, American politics. And especially outside of the US there aren't that many. Truth is wrapped up completely in to making a heroic anti-Bush story. It feels fake all around and even the amazing Blahcett couldn't save the story. It is over done, too melodramatic and way too predictable. 38/100.

My mom wanted to watch this cuz she likes Dan Rather. It was fine. No new info given during this. Blanchett does a great Mapes tho.

Aside from strong performances from Quaid, Blanchett and Redford, this bio-drama offers little more than the footnote of history it was based upon. The 3rd season of Sorkin's The Newsroom offers the same commentary on journalism with better dialogue and more colourful characters. This film is half an hour too long, and my lingering impression is a scene in the editing room, chopping the news report to length, followed by an overlong montage of the cast congratulating each other and themselves.

Blanchett burns on a high flame, and Redford finds the wounded dignity in Rather.

Based on the book by Mapes we get a film where Mapes is the all-around hero, just seeking truth for the sake of truth. It rings false from the very first minute. It is still a compelling falsehood, except for any time Topher Grace is on screen (incredibly poor casting there).

A missed opportunity to hire Will Smith for cross-promotion: "Tell the TRUTH!"

Honestly surprised not more positive reviews. I thought the acting here was excellent and solid story and direction. If the script was punched up a bit more we may have some more memorable lines. As it was based on Mapes’s book, it’s got a little “telling her story” bias.
