A young man leads a gang of teenage troublemakers while getting involved in petty crime.
Walter Fendrich tells in flashbacks of his previous life and of the day on which he meets the young girl Hedwig Muller. Walter, who knows the hunger and exploitation of the postwar years and who judges people only for their generosity, now finds an unconditional love.
