The 13 Court Guard Squads who attacked Ichigo and Rukia in the Soul Society are revealed to be imposters known as Reigai, who have switched places with their originals. Thanks to the work of Mayuri, the real captains and lieutenants are rescued from the Precipice World, and they all regroup in the World of the Living to discuss how to deal with this new crisis.
Kon goes out to search for Nozomi and finds her wandering aimlessly. Meanwhile, the Soul Society has assembled a special team, including the Reigai of Ikkaku, Yumichika, and Hisagi, to apprehend Ichigo. The Reigai arrive in the World of the Living where they encounter their originals, and a battle ensues!

Rukia is also having a tough battle against the Reigai of herself and Nemu, when help arrives from an unexpected person. Meanwhile in the Soul Society, Ukitake pleads for Kyoraku's release to Central 46.
Chad encounters Renji's Reigai while searching for Nozomi, and a battle ensues between the two. Meanwhile, Unohana grows suspicious over the events surrounding Kyoraku's arrest, and begins to conduct her own research. In the process, Unohana learns that Kageroza is the mastermind behind this incident.

Ichigo, who was swept away by the Cleaner inside the Precipice World, has safely returned to the World of the Living to everyone's delight. Meanwhile in the Soul Society, the Reigai are revealed to be Mod Souls created by Kageroza.
The Soul Reapers in the World of the Living have lost contact with the captains in the Soul Society. Meanwhile, the revelation of Nozomi being a Mod Soul surprises Ichigo and his friends. Kon is particularly shocked, and is now unsure of how to interact with Nozomi.
Nozomi wishes to join the battle against the Reigai, believing her Zanpakuto may stand a chance against Kageroza's Zanpakuto. But the Soul Reapers are unable to completely trust Nozomi due to her power not being fully awakened yet. Ichigo and his friends decide to help Nozomi by training her to reach Shikai.
Having regained her Shikai, Nozomi tries to join Ichigo and the others to fight the Reigai captains, but the other Soul Reapers tell her not to interfere. In the midst of the battle, Hisagi and Izuru are brought down by the Reigai of Hitsugaya, who prepares to finish off the two lieutenants.
Head Captain Genryusai Yamamoto steps in to battle against the Reigai. Ichigo and Nozomi join Genryusai, each taking on the Reigai of captains Unohana, Ukitake, and Kyoraku.
Nozomi's Zanpakuto breaks in the midst of trying to protect Genryusai from Kageroza's attack. As Ichigo and Kon try to save Nozomi from being taken away, Kageroza reveals a shocking secret between him and Nozomi.
Following his defeat by Kageroza, Ichigo has lost his Soul Reaper powers. Still determined to save Nozomi, Ichigo and his friends gather at Urahara's shop to come up with a rescue plan.
Inside the Precipice World, Rukia and the others act as decoys to draw away the Reigai's attention while Ichigo, Urahara, and Kon break into the Seireitei. As they search for Kageroza's laboratory, Urahara makes an attempt to restore Ichigo's lost Soul Reaper powers but is discovered by the Reigai of Nemu and Nanao.
The captains and lieutenants of the 13 Court Guard Squads thought to have fallen in battle returns to fight the Reigai. Meanwhile, Ichigo's spirit energy and Hollow powers continue to grow unstable, forcing him to rest for the time being.
Inside the Maggot's Nest, Urahara and Kon find Ouko Yushima, the man behind Kageroza's invasion. Finding traces of Kageroza's blood nearby, the two follow the trail and finally discover Nozomi's whereabouts.
Kageroza, having regained his complete powers, sets out to kill the Hollowfied Ichigo when Rukia, Uryu, Renji, Chad, and Orihime arrive to stop him.
The captains of the 13 Court Guard Squads find themselves gradually overpowered by the Reigai forces. Meanwhile, Rukia, Uryu, Renji, and Chad use their teamwork to fight Kageroza.
An unexpected change comes over the Reigai as the Soul Reapers continue to fight them. Meanwhile, Ichigo and Kageroza have their final showdown.
