Haley drops Alex off at school, where they meet her intense new roommate. Phil asks Luke to help him show a house, but he'd rather be with his friends. And everybody else is looking for an excuse to get out of Lily's soccer game.

Phil has second thoughts after he helps Haley talk Claire into letting Dylan move in; Mitch accepts a job working for Jay's biggest rival; Cameron and Gloria cannot agree on how to handle Manny's girl problem.

Phil builds a habitat for the duck eggs and convinces Lily to help him hatch them; Claire is anxious about telling Jay her ideas for closets; Gloria and Manny assist each other with their "crushes"; Cam bonds with frat guys.

Claire is excited to give Haley and Alex a great experience for "Bring Your Daughter to Work Day" but the staff is not making it easy, and Phil takes Luke and Manny's class out for community service day, which becomes a teachable moment in more ways than one. Elsewhere, Gloria is thrilled to be on jury duty leaving Jay to help out at Joe's pre-school and he is not happy about it at all. Cam and Mitch disagree over which of their friends to invite to their party, so could Gloria help mediate?

Luke is arrested for driving without a license; Alex is caught sneaking out of a liquor store; Cam thinks Gloria should re-create and sell her family's hot sauce; Haley and Dylan have an awkward encounter with Beth and Andy.

A conversation about a house Phil is helping to sell gives everyone the idea to sneak in to enjoy it themselves; Jay and Gloria's plan to pay for a surprise family trip to Miami turns into a surprise for Gloria and then a bigger surprise for Jay.

When Gloria wins a family seminar at the school auction, Jay is resistant, Mitch and Cam try to come across as super stable, and Phil and Claire turn it into a competition; Haley and Alex get together to talk about boys.

In hopes of the perfect white Christmas she never had in Columbia, Gloria rents a cabin in the mountains for the whole family, including Andy, to celebrate the Christmas holiday. Jay makes a decision about the future of his business. Alex makes a new friend. Haley and Andy continue to fool around in secret.

The Dunphy kids make a last-minute birthday surprise for Mitchell, and run into Ray Liotta. Jay is uncomfortable with the father of Joe's new play date. Claire asks Phil to not pick up the bill at lunch. Cam helps Lily with a new crush.

Claire hopes to help the ducklings move out of the house while Phil is visiting Alex at college, Jay helps Mitch with Lily's sleepover, and Cam, Gloria and Manny must meet a big hot sauce delivery deadline.

Claire decides to clean the clutter out of the house before taking over Jay's business; Jay's new hobby makes Cameron worry; Gloria enlists Mitchell to teach her how to golf so she can connect with Jay on a deeper level.

Claire's new position means Phil feels like a housewife. Gloria's provocative sauce ad gets Jay jealous. Mitch and Cam rent the apartment above their own, but end up spying on their guests

Power outages during a thunderstorm send the whole family to Jay and Gloria's; Jay tries to make it to a reunion with buddies from the Navy; Phil hopes to redeem himself after a panic attack; Mitch and Cam must salvage Lily's birthday party.

Unaware that Claire has a personal assistant, Phil cannot figure out how she is getting everything done; Jay and Gloria are sleep deprived as Joe goes through a fussy phase; Cam and Mitch feel they are not treated well at a friend's wedding.

Phil lies to Claire to keep her from finding out about his attractive new client; Gloria asks for Claire's help in dealing with a yoga instructor she thinks is attracted to her; Jay makes a web show; Mitch and Cam teach Lily how to ride a bike.

Phil decides he wants to take a spontaneous trip to Paris with Claire, but they are both exhausted; Jay's command of the bathroom remodel creates hazards for the rest of the family; Cam's visiting sister's emotional outbursts frustrate Mitch.

Manny and Luke are in charge of babysitting Lily so that the adults can enjoy a day to themselves. Claire and Gloria have a lovely trip to the spa planned; Phil and Mitch nerd out in the movies; Jay and Cam go to a sports bar to watch the big fight. Things started going awry though when the fire alarm goes off back at the house, Claire is convinced the boys are secretly throwing a party.

Claire takes in a stray dog and tries to hide it from Phil. Gloria persuades a reluctant Jay to make a new friend. Mitchell tries to persuade the drummer in a Christian rock band he suspects of being gay to come out of the closet.

Claire is convinced there's a mole in the company, Phil confronts Auntie Alice about stealing Gloria's hot sauce recipe, and Jay teaches Joe how to be a handyman.

The family travels by train to Dede's wedding. Phil and Cam help a mystery writer with his book, Jay's comment puts the wedding in jeopardy, Claire helps Mitch write the toast, and Luke and Alex meet possible romantic interests.

Claire struggles to find the right time to fire an employee; Phil thinks he caught Luke with a girl; Alex moves back in, seemingly undetected; Jay refuses to believe it might be difficult to re-enter the workforce.
