A thoughtful, understated British television movie that manages--mostly--to avoid the exploitation its subject matter invites. Matthew Macfadyen is stunningly good, really extraordinary. There's not a wasted gesture or false vocal inflection. One can always feel his character's pain close to the surface, yet his performance is so multi-layered, it's always about so much more. I have enjoyed his work in the past, but this was a real revelation.
