Re: Best Genre?

I'm of the opinion that there isn't any single "best genre". I have my favorites, but I would agree that some are more lenient in what you could do then others. That being said, there isn't a limit to what can be done in a specific genre because there is a constant influx of new directors ...

I got around to watching The Night of the Hunter

Wow. Beautiful photography, particularly those shots during the night in the later half of the film. Also, Robert Mitchum's performance is excellence of the highest degree. The scene where the children are in the basement and he calls from the top of the stairs "Children, I'm getting awful angr...

Re: Just finished watching Boogie Nights.

You could say that Mark Wahlberg is the star of the movie but really this is a movie packed with scene-stealing performances from a whole load of stars, and each gets their moment... Alfred Molina in the drug deal scene, Julianne Moore in the bedroom coke-snorting breakdown scene, Heather Graham in...

Re: Your thoughts on Gangs of New York?

I wouldn't say it's too much to start a topic out with some incentive for discussion that goes beyond "I like [blank], what do you think?". It's a bad habit that newcomers to a board get into and need to develop out of.

I suppose so. I'll keep that in mind from now on.

Re: Your thoughts on Gangs of New York?

Your thoughts were truly inspiring. Well, if you're going to be an ass about it... Should I SPOILER warning here? Yes, I thought that it had a lot of great scenes. One of my favorites is when Bill is shot the first time in the theater and he pulls out his knife and says: "You see this knife? I...

Just finished watching Boogie Nights.

Wow. Fantastic film. I can't say I have seen much of Mark Whalberg's stuff (I've seen Four Brothers, Shooter, The Departed) and I've herd people say he's a bad actor, but his performance in Boogie Nights I thought was great. I liked pretty much everything about it though I did find it a bit on the l...
