Re: Books about movies - film criticism, biography, history,
For myself, I have found that I have disliked the great bulk of writing that belongs to the canon of so-called film theory, finding it ill-argued, philosophically weak, and, worst of all, tedious. I agree with this. And I would put Cavell's book on top of the list for tedious, ill-argued film essay...

Re: Psycho-political mini-reviews
I have immensely enjoyed Slavoj Žižek's review of the last Batman, though I don't agree with everything; haven't seen his 'Pervert's guides' yet. I love reading these kinds of reviews, looking for subtext and indoctrination appeals to my inner tin-foil hat wearer/folklorist There's nothing conspirat...

Re: Save the Cat
What I'm saying is that the three-act structure, at least in Hollywood cinema, has already been meticulously pinned down for decades. I haven't seen that link, and I'm seeing some mild differences with the structure I was familiar with, but only very little ones. What this breakdown does is pinning ...

Re: Save the Cat
The three-act structure has alwasy been meticulously detailed, it isn't a new thing. And Hollywood being an industry it's just logical that there would be a closely followed formula to work with. I don't think Snyder's book it's a game-changer, to me it just sounds like thinly veiled publicity (even...

Re: A few things...
I'm still really looking forward to seeing collections grouped together. I'm sick of checking out collections for a film to see hundreds of meaningless lists I don't care about, that don't reflect anything about the film. Not to mention it will be really nice to explore different subgenres (or gener...

Re: Film soundtracks in your music collection
A simple composition, but it creates such an amazing atmosphere in the film.

Re: Film soundtracks in your music collection
Forgot all about Goblin, Profondo Rosso is a great album, and truly the music pretty much makes that film. The Assasination of Jesse James I remember had a great soundtrack too, I'll be checking it out soon. And speaking of Lynch I remember listening a lot to the Lost Highway soundtrack a few years ...
