Re: Improvement in recommendations

It'd be really difficult to estimate the percentage to which performance would be improved by extra hardware -- it'd be one of those things which we could only know for sure once we had it, and were able to do some testing.

Re: Why don't I have a tenth tier?

The main reason that you don't have a 10th tier is that there isn't enough variance in your rankings. Criticker tries to keep the same number of films in each tier, and would have to split up your films which are ranked 100 to get a tenth tier. The algorithm prevents it from splitting films which ar...

Re: how do you pronouce criticker?

My dad has always insisted on pronouncing it "Cricket - er", which is annoying to no end. And recently, he's started with "Jimminy Cricket-er".

Re: your sites been down intermittently

no probs. i found another problem, the 'films in common' box won't drop down on people's profiles for some reason. all the other drop down boxes seem to work Fixed. This was actually related to our cleaning up functions related to the old Forum. Stupid typo was preventing the drop-down. Thanks for ...

Re: your sites been down intermittently

Yes, the sites were down for quite a few hours. There was a traffic surge that knocked out our webserver, and at the same time a problem with our alerting scripts prevented us from knowing about it (we were sound asleep here in Ireland). But, we're spending time today on strengthening our alerting s...

Re: Changing Recommendations?

I'm sorry, but having films listed as recommendations that aren't personal recommendations whatsoever is basically useless. That's not actually what I meant... sorry for the misunderstanding. This would be a list of your personal recommendations sorted by PSIs. By "unchanging list", I mea...

Re: Alternate versions

This is one of those questions I hate responding to, because it doesn't have an clear-cut answer. For almost all cases, we use IMDB as the final arbiter. If a film just has one IMDB entry, it gets just one at Criticker. However, we have made exceptions -- you rightly point out Apocalypse Now Redux. ...

Re: Suggestion

Glad you like the new forums! Your suggestion is something we do plan on implementing... just one of the many things on our plate. It's especially important for guests to Criticker, who can't build PSIs. But you're right -- it would be interesting for everyone. (For the record, we have it listed as ...

Re: Agnieszka Holland

We've added Kobieta samotna to our queue of films to process. We're running a little behind that list, but we should get to it in the next couple weeks. If you'd like to add movies yourself to this queue, you can use our Film Submission form, here: m We kind of purposely make it difficult to find th...

Re: Tier shown as score

We've fixed this issue now. It was happening for Guests to Criticker, and not other registered users.

Thanks a lot for pointing it out! Your scores are now being correctly displayed.
