Well, it should be... Werner Herzog is the man. I mean, comeon... "It's not like I get shot everyday or something, but I wasn't really surprised at all..."! I heard two versions of who shot him: one claims it was a fanatic sniper, which sounds a little suspicios, and another one said it was a mistaken hunter, which sounds even more idiotic.

What about the possibility that he payed the sniper and staged the entire thing to get good PR and love from his fanboys?

I think Werner Herzog is way too full of himself and yes, he is crazy (in a very mean subtle way), way more than Kinski ever was.

As for his movies, I have yet to discover what justifies the fuzz about him.

These: Aguirre: The Wrath of God (made in 1972!), Fitzcarraldo and his recent documentaries.

All quite decent/interesting in a pretentious artsy fartsy way, but other than that...I guess not my cup of tea. (Maybe I don't get it?)

Fitzcarraldo is especially lame, considering how Herzog made a profit on the back of the native people there.
And the whole idea of that "short cut" ... is just soo dumb.

I don't think Herzog made these films to be artsy. There are much easier ways of doing that than shooting these films in the jungle (at that time). Everybody is entitled to their opinion, but I've got the impression you didn't see them. Off all people I don't think you can accuse Herzog of being artsy....

Did it not occur to you, that I am not registered very long on this site and still have a lot of films to rank and go through?

Besides, I should have maybe replaced 'arty fartsy' by BORING or simply should've emphasized the 'pretentious'.

As for his movies, I've seen Aguirre, Nosferatu, Woyzeck, Fitzcarraldo, Mein Liebster Feind & Rescue Dawn.
All of wich, are kind of noteworthy, he got his own style, I'll certainly give him that, but nothing really seems to ever engage/drag me into his flicks.
I don't know, I just don't care for his characters and the premises. I am kind of frustrated that I don't seem to get what's so great about him. Then again, maybe I am trying too hard, and after all, he just isn't that exceptional like everyone says.
