[considered] put more weight on users' TOP films

Post by livelove »

 suggestion: Based on this discussion, put more weight/emphasis on users' TOP films in TCI calculations.

The idea is that my TCI with a user matching my top 5 films should be higher than with another user randomly matching 15 average films around the 50% percentile.

Thanks for this suggestion! We do already have this one written down as a possible future enhancement -- weighting both ends of a user's ratings scale.

Thank you for your reply. I admit I'am a bit torn on this one.
Because on the one hand there are very good arguments (see the discussion linked above) for tweaking the math by distributing the weight differently (and I agree that it would have to be done on both ends).

On the other hand, however, it's attractive how criticker is pretty straightforward without all the hocus-pocus of seemingly arbitrary tweaks (think IMDb's undisclosed calculations for their "weighted average").

So it's a tough call. I don't know.

However, what would definitely be a good idea (and certainly much less controversial) is to add a way for users to discover other users sharing your absolute favourite films – as they won't necessarily be among your best TCIs.

I'll add that as a separate feature idea here:
 show users who love your top films
