We're excited to announce that Criticker has been selected as the sponsor for the People's Choice: Hidden Gem category for the 45th BASE Awards, which will be held in London's Camden Roundhouse on November 13th, 2025!
The British Association for Screen Entertainment (BASE) has represented and facilitated the growth of the UK Home Entertainment industry for the past 45 years. The BASE Awards are a spectacular celebration of the innovation, creativity and passion that have shaped the sector over nearly half a century, honouring the year's best labels, distributors, titles, campaigns and more.
We think Criticker is a great fit (if we do say so ourselves)! Anyone familiar with our annual Top 20 Most-Loved Films at Criticker knows that the Criticker Coummunity loves a great hidden gem. In fact, the last two winners of the BASE Hidden Gem Award were also highly ranked on Criticker's year-end countdowns! Past Lives was #8 in 2024's most-loved films, while Aftersun landed at #4 in our 2022 list.
Voting is already open for the 2025 edition of the Hidden Gem award. This particular category differs from others at the BASE Awards, in that it's chosen by the public. Everyone is encouraged to visit the website to pick their favorite under-the-radar film. The only requirement is that it was released transactionally in the UK between 1st April 2024 and 31st March 2025. There are a bunch of films already in the nomination dropdown, but if you don't see your favorite you can type it in.
Once initial voting is tallied, a short list of ten finalists will be generated. We'll let you know which films made the cut, once it is announced. We encourage all Criticker users to go cast their vote ... we know you have an uncanny ability to spot the best hidden gems!
