Updates and Fixes - 23 Jun 2025
Published 23 Jun 2025

Here are the latest code fixes to Criticker, implemented on the 23rd of June, 2025. Thank you to everyone who's taken time out of their day to alert us to these problems and suggest improvements!

We'd also like to apologize for the downtime experienced on Wednesday, June 18th. If you tried to access Criticker in the evening of that day, or the early morning of Thursday, the site was inaccessible. This was due to an unexpected problem at the server level, but the good news is that we used the opportunity to introduce some upgrades. And now Criticker is running faster than ever!

If you like the progress we're making, please consider telling your friends and family to join up, and consider becoming a sponsor! Also, don't forget to check out our official Subreddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/criticker/ -- our Reddit community is small, but growing!

Bug Fixes

Rolling login expiration - Criticker had been expiring logged-in sessions after about a month. However now, as long as you continue to use Criticker, your session will be renewed, removing the need for these annoying, occasional logins. If you don't use Criticker at all, the session will still expire after a month.

Episode number not listed on episode page - Total oversight on our part, when we introduced the ability to rate full seasons on Criticker, two weeks ago. We've fixed this now by showing the Episode Number in the breadcrumbs above the title.

Missing star button - Some bad CSS caused the star buttons within the "Films In Common" sidebar to appear missing, when looking at another user's profile. That's been repaired.

Updating filmmakers country - An error was preventing users from updating the biography, country, or age of filmmakers. That's been fixed.

Filter seasons & episodes out of search results - If you searched for Breaking Bad, the search results would include Breaking Bad (the series), Breaking Bad - Seasons 1-5, and the episode of Breaking Bad titled Breaking Bad. We've cleaned this up, and added an option to search by episode name, if you're looking for a particular episode.

Display all starred reviews from fans - A recent update had limited the number of "recent stars" from your biggest fans that we display, to 10. We've restored the ability now to see all of the mini-reviews which your biggest fans have starred.

Games update history shows Pub/Dev ids - In the "Update History" of a game, we had been erroneously showing the numeric IDs of publishers and developers, instead of their names.

Improve collections search - During a search on "Neo-Noir", the collection called "Neo-Noir" was not on the top of the list, losing out to one called "Neo-Neo-Realism". This was an error. It's been repaired, and the overall functionality of search on Collections has been improved.

Some TCI stats missing - Criticker was not displaying TCI information for certain users, but not providing any information as to why. That's been fixed, and now if a TCI isn't able to be built, information is provided which explains the reason.

Game vs Film notifications - If you got a notification about a new star on one of your GAME reviews, pressing on the notification link brought you to the Starred Reviews of the FILM section.

"New Releases" for Games - We were providing a menu option for "New Releases" on the Games version of the site. We don't have such a thing available (though we might want to think about that), so have removed it from the menu.
