Virumaandi (Kamal Hassan) lives a lighthearted lifestyle, never taking things very seriously. Kothala Thevar (Pasupathy), a big name in town, has set his sights on Virumaandi's property and wants it so badly that he'll hand over his own niece, Annalakshmi (Abhirami), in exchange for it. Orphaned street boys Shankar (Jayaram), Sivan (Biju Menon) & Karunan (Suresh Gopi) grow up to be thick friends. Shankar & Sivan, who loved music, gets a break to form a band called 'Millennium Stars' with record label head Nair (Devan), & strikes it big, whilst Karunan turns to crime. Ahuja, head of a rival record label, uses Karunan as a pawn & breaks 'Millennium Stars' up. Shankar & Sivan goes solo, but after they flop, finally team up again.
