The film is set just before Poland's communist regime came to an end, and the central character is a provincial censor (Janusz Gajos), a tired, sloppy, lonely man, whose wife has long since left him. For him, censorship is both an art and a game, but he does not enjoy it. During the screening of a sentimental Polish melodrama called "Daybreak" at the Liberty cinema across the road from the censor's office, the actors start to rebel and refuse to speak their lines. Writer and star Stanislaw Tym reprises his role from the 1981 comedy "Teddy Bear," again essaying the role of intrepid hero Ryszard Ochodzki. In this satirical outing set in 1981 Poland, Ryszard is recruited to infiltrate Solidarity; only by disguising himself in drag and fleeing to Sweden can he escape being made an unintentional hero of the movement.
This based on a true story movie was one of best ones made in Poland in 1990s. Very entertaining, with a very good plot and acting, it takes place in Poland right after WWII ended and the communists established themselves as new rulers of the country, with the help of the Soviets. After 45 years of communist regime and propaganda there's finally some taste of the truth: the Soviets are portrayed as arrogant aggressors, rather than friendly-disposed harmless allies. (imdb)
