Set at the turn of the century it presents a story of a famous Polish athlete, Zbyszko Cyganiewicz. It begins in a small town where a traveling circus attracts a shy boy into a phony wrestling game to please the crowds. The youth, however, takes his strength seriously, eventually defeating a name wrestler in a fair match. As a result of a mistake, the siblings change roles and go on vacation somewhere else than planned. The boy goes to his aunt and cousins, the girl goes to her uncle and cousins. To save her brother, the sister pretends to be a boy and he, left with no choice, pretends to be a girl.

A light hearted comedy-adventure film, Janosik tells the legendary story of the titular character, a Robin Hood-esque outlaw who lives in the Tatra Mountains and steals from the rich to give to the poor. Adapted from the 13 part TV series of the same name.
