Two radio comics go to Desert Springs, one to get away from his jealous wife and the other to escape the attentions of a comedienne. The body of an agent is found in their room and later disappears. After some sleuthing by the actors and some other detectives, changed just enough from well-known fiction-and-movie detectives to keep from being sued, it is discovered that the agent was not killed, but his body had been concealed by his doctor.
The Three Mesquiteers, Tucson, Stony, and Lullaby (Dodd's 1st appearance in the series) arrive to help Sheriff Lippy fight the outlaws. But when the gang leader Curly Joe captures Tucson and notices the resemblance, he assumes Tucson's identity.
A private detective, who has been shot, stumbles into the office of Michael Shayne (Hugh Beaumont), and dies before Shayne can question him. Shayne finds a baggage ticket in his hand. He claims it and finds the checked-bag contains the loot from a robbery. Now, he has about fifty minutes left of the running time to find the crooks, bring them to justice and return the money to the rightful owners. And needs all of it.
Just as church services are letting out, a shabbily-dressed stranger is run over by an automobile in front of the church. The stranger is helped mentally and physically by the minister and congregation members, who help him regain his self-confidence and also to accept the death of his wife as she was about to embark from Europe, as a displaced person, to join him in America. They help bring his 5-year-old daughter to the United States, and the congregation makes a home for him and his daughter.
