Cheung Siang Chang

During the height of the 1966 Cultural Revolution, thirteen-year-old Tian Ben is sent to a remote mountain re-education camp after being caught playing a prohibited pop record. Subjected to hard labor and daily political indoctrination alongside older prisoners, he finds unexpected solace in shared camaraderie with a young pickpocket and a quiet monk while nursing a growing desire to escape.
