Henry Dunant, a Genevan bourgeois, works for a Swiss company in French Algeria and determines to convince the firm and emperor Napoleon III to build a dam for the colonists. On his way to the emperor, he gets stuck in Austrian Castiglione which French troops came to 'liberate'.
